A recent Pew Research Center study on how Americans engage in society across politics, civics, news, and religion.
Elisa Shearer is a senior researcher at Pew Research Center, where she studies Americans' habits and attitudes about news. She studies where Americans get news – from TV stations and newspapers to social media and AI chatbots – including how local news has changed as Americans shift away from print and broadcast toward digital sources. She also studies how much people trust the information they get from those sources and why that trust has been changing, and how news consumption connects to broader civic engagement, from voting to participation in community life.
Elisa has a master's degree in communication studies from Georgetown University, where she also teaches survey methods as an adjunct professor. She has worked at the Pew Research Center since 2014.
